Terms of Service
The rules and legal terms governing access to and use of Unity Links.
Effective: July 18, 20261. Acceptance of These Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Unity Links website, community portal, missing-person alert features, safety-education courses, forms, communications, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing or using the Services, creating an account, submitting information, or posting content, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Community & Safety Guidelines, and the Reporting Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
2. Purpose of Unity Links
Unity Links is a community-awareness, safety-education, and informational platform intended to support responsible sharing of missing-person information, promote prevention, provide educational resources, and connect people around public-safety and family-support efforts.
Unity Links is not a law-enforcement agency, emergency service, private investigator, legal service, medical provider, or government agency.
3. Emergencies and Official Reporting
If a child or any person is in immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate local emergency service. Submit official missing-person reports and credible sightings directly to law enforcement.
A submission to Unity Links does not create an official police report, replace an investigation, guarantee publication, dispatch responders, or guarantee that an alert will be seen or acted upon.
4. Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old to create a community account or use interactive account features.
- If you are under 18, you may view public educational content only with appropriate parent or guardian involvement and may not create an account or submit personal information on your own.
- You must be legally capable of entering into these Terms.
- You may not use the Services if your account has been suspended or terminated unless Unity Links gives written permission.
5. Accounts and Security
You agree to provide accurate account information, keep it current, protect your password, and promptly notify Unity Links of suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity conducted through your account unless prohibited by law.
Do not share accounts, create deceptive accounts, impersonate another person or authority, or attempt to bypass an account restriction.
6. Missing-Person Reports and Case Submissions
By submitting case information, you represent and warrant that:
- The information is truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- You have a legitimate and lawful basis to make the submission.
- You have permission or legal authority to submit the photographs, contact details, documents, and personal information provided.
- You have contacted law enforcement first when the situation requires an official or emergency report.
- The submission is not intended to harass, threaten, locate someone for an improper purpose, interfere with a custody dispute, or violate a court order.
Unity Links may verify, edit for clarity, decline, delay, publish, share, update, label, archive, or remove a case. We may contact you, the investigating agency, an authorized representative, or another relevant source to verify information.
7. User Content and Permission to Operate the Services
“User Content” includes text, photos, videos, documents, posts, comments, reports, profile information, messages, and other material you submit.
You retain ownership of User Content you own. By submitting User Content, you grant Unity Links a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, adapt for accessibility or display, publish, distribute, and share that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, moderate, improve, and promote the relevant Services or alert.
You represent that your User Content does not violate privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, confidentiality, court orders, or other rights. You are responsible for your User Content and any consequences of submitting it.
8. Community Standards
You must follow the Community & Safety Guidelines. Prohibited conduct includes:
- Child exploitation, grooming, trafficking, abuse, threats, or endangerment.
- False alerts, hoaxes, impersonation, fraud, scams, or malicious reporting.
- Harassment, stalking, hate speech, doxxing, intimidation, or public accusations unsupported by verified official information.
- Vigilante activity, surveillance, confrontation, detention, or interference with an investigation.
- Hacking, scraping that burdens the Services, malware, credential theft, security testing without authorization, or circumvention of access controls.
- Spam, unauthorized advertising, unauthorized fundraising, or unlawful content.
9. Community, Courses, and Communications
Unity Links may provide profiles, feeds, Spaces, courses, quizzes, badges, leaderboards, notifications, email, comments, and messaging where enabled. Features may be public, private, secret, moderated, modified, or discontinued.
Course materials are educational and informational. Completion, badges, scores, rankings, or certificates do not establish professional qualifications, law-enforcement authority, or authorization to conduct searches or investigations.
10. Moderation and Account Action
Unity Links may, but is not obligated to, monitor or review content. We may remove content, restrict features, preserve records, issue warnings, suspend or terminate accounts, or refer information to appropriate authorities when we believe action is necessary for safety, policy enforcement, legal compliance, or protection of the Services.
We may act without prior notice in urgent or serious circumstances. We are not required to disclose confidential moderation, safety, or legal information.
11. Third-Party Information and Links
The Services may display or link to information from users, law-enforcement agencies, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, news organizations, resource providers, and other third parties. Unity Links does not control all third-party information and does not guarantee that it is complete, current, or error-free.
Third-party websites and services are governed by their own terms and policies. Your use of them is at your own risk.
12. Intellectual Property
Except for User Content and third-party material, the Services and their original design, branding, text, software, organization, and materials are owned by or licensed to Unity Links and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may share public alerts and public educational materials for lawful awareness purposes when you preserve attribution, do not alter material facts, do not imply endorsement, and do not use the content commercially without permission. Other copying, resale, scraping, or redistribution requires written authorization.
13. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy. By using the Services, you acknowledge that electronic communications and online storage carry inherent security risks.
14. Changes, Availability, and Termination of Services
Unity Links may add, modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any feature or all Services at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, delivery of alerts, preservation of content, compatibility with every device, or error-free operation.
You may stop using the Services at any time. Account closure may not remove content that must be retained for safety, legal compliance, public records, moderation, backup, or another lawful purpose.
15. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR THAT USE OF THE SERVICES WILL LOCATE A MISSING PERSON OR PREVENT HARM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
16. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, UNITY LINKS AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, CONTRACTORS, DEVELOPERS, PARTNERS, AND AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, REPUTATION, OPPORTUNITY, REVENUE, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Because liability rules vary, this section should be reviewed for the jurisdiction in which Unity Links is legally organized.
17. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Unity Links and its representatives from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising from your User Content, misuse of the Services, violation of these Terms, violation of law, or infringement of another person’s rights.
18. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by applicable federal law of the United States and the laws of the jurisdiction in which Unity Links is legally organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any mandatory consumer rights available in your place of residence remain unaffected.
Before filing a claim, you agree to contact contact@unitylinks.org and make a good-faith effort to resolve the matter informally, except when urgent injunctive or safety-related relief is necessary.
19. General Terms
- If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
- Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- You may not transfer your rights or obligations without written consent. Unity Links may assign these Terms as part of an organizational transaction.
- These Terms and the policies incorporated by reference form the entire agreement concerning the Services unless a separate written agreement applies.
20. Changes to These Terms
Unity Links may revise these Terms. The effective date will be updated, and additional notice may be provided for material changes. Continued use after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
21. Contact
Questions about these Terms may be sent to contact@unitylinks.org.
